This is the area in which I now live.  I guess because I have moved so many times in the past, I finally decided that I needed a place to settle down and remain in one place for the rest of my life.  I think I have found it, and as I have said to many of my friends.......
My next move will be out of this house "feet first".

Redland Bay is situated at the Southern end of the Redland Shire, and the main areas can be broken into three major locations.  Major shopping areas at Capalaba (about 25 minutes drive away) and Victoria Point (about 10 minutes drive away).  There is also the main business precinct and hospital located at Cleveland, about 15 minutes drive away.  So I have the benefit of all major facilities within a very short distance.

Situated just beside Cleveland is Raby Bay, which is a man made canal estate where all homes have a water frontage.  House and land prices in that area are really extravagant, and if you haven't got a starting price of approximately one million dollars, do not even consider a move to that area.  It is beautiful, and there are some lovely homes, but you certainly pay for the privelige.

When I first moved here in 1991, the area was mainly a farming one with many vegetables grown for the local Brisbane markets.  The surrounding areas were nearly all potato, tomato, strawberry, flower and other farms.  Although there was a reasonably large population base, there were still many acres of land dedicated to farming.  Redland Bay was generally known as the "Salad Bowl" of Brisbane city.

Since that time, land values have sky-rocketedmost of the farms have been sold to developers and subdivided into housing blocks and there are very few farms left at all.  In fact I can only think of two flower farms that still remain, and no vegetable farms at all.  The population of the area has boomed in the last fifteen years, and continues to grow at a rapid pace.

Despite that the area does have some history and North Stradbroke Island (which is part of the Redland Shire) was one of the first settlements by Europeans in what is now Queensland.

My own home is only about 500 metres or so from Moreton Bay, and even though the climate is sub-tropical, we get the benefit of cooling sea breezes.  So here are some photographs of the area I now call home.  Enjoy looking at my little corner of Australia.

And finally, where I now live.  A view of my front yard from some years ago when my health allowed me to spend more time in my garden.  Even if I was still physically able to do the work to maintain the garden like this, the drought of the past few years has us on water restrictions and there are no longer any green yards like this to be seen anywhere.  I was quite proud of this lawn and garden and it was often commented on by others.
