Road To Friendship
Oh, one’s life’s roads are many,
So which should we then choose.
Who can we call to guide us,
So ourselves we do not lose.
Let’s stand just for a moment,
At the crossroads you can see.
The paths leading to your future,
Whatever that may be.
We can choose a path of conflict,
Use force to lead the way.
But friends will be so few I fear,
Would any last the day.
For conflict is a loser,
And no one sits beside.
Your travels through your lifetime,
Becomes a long and lonely ride.
What of a road so selfish,
Think of oneself as best.
Never taking time for others,
Afraid to face life’s test.
Selfishness brings no one,
And you’re left with tears in eyes.
To face all of life’s perils,
Whenever they may rise.
There’s another road called prejudice,
But it doesn’t travel far.
It judges man by colour,
And not by who they are.
Prejudice leads to evil,
A hatred so profound.
Never accepting for a moment,
The common ties that bound.
A narrow path of shyness,
You choose life on your own.
A fear of all around you,
Forever left alone.
But shyness can be beaten,
Just somehow learn to reach.
To others all around you,
Let them just show and teach.
An easy path to riches,
Measured in coin and gold.
If you care not who you’re hurting,
But it is your soul you’ve sold.
For wealth is not the answer,
If you seek eternal peace.
No matter how much gold you have,
It won’t your soul release.
So what is left I ask you,
As you gaze upon those tracks.
Which one should you follow,
With no need to wander back.
Look, there’s a narrow path so winding,
Seems a long tough road.
But on every bend I see there,
There’s someone to share the load.
That my friend is the road of friendship,
The road that leads you on.
To a life that’s filled with joy and hope,
As you travel it along.
You may not meet too many,
You may meet quite a few.
But all of those you meet I’m sure,
Will share the track with you.
They’ll help you tote your burden,
Make lighter your dark day.
Sit with you of an evening,
And together learn to pray.
Although the road may be long and weary,
Every step will bring a smile.
Because you’ve chosen the right path,
To tread this lifetime’s miles.
So of all the roads you see out there,
Let others make their choice.
But choose the road of friendship,
And you forever will rejoice.
Forget about the rich man,
You know you can be bold.
For your friendships have more value,
Than his riches or his gold.
One thing that I do ask you,
Before the journey you begin.
Try to show the others waiting,
The road worth following.
Start this lifetime journey,
With new friends by your side.
Follow that long and winding road,
And you’ll enjoy life’s ride.
