Tablets Of Stone

Moses climbed that mountain,
It was the path he trod,
And saw the burning bush atop,
Then spoke direct to God.
He asked a single question,
What had he been called there for,
And God answered in a simple way,
You’re to take and show my law.
God then said to Moses,
These laws I give to you,
So you can take them to my people,
For them to follow too.
So Moses took those words inscribed,
On those tablets made of stone,
And though there was no man around,
He did not feel alone.
Slowly read those words as written,
And found there were ten laws,
If man just chose to follow them,
To fear he had no cause.
For all of those Commandments,
Were addressed to all mankind,
For what man just had to do,
Was keep them all in mind.
They really weren’t so difficult,
For God had made it plain,
That He was God of all creation,
And not to use His name in vain.
Remember then to thank Him,
For all that He had done,
And honour those who bore you,
You were someone’s daughter or a son.
Remember vows of marriage,
And never kill another,
That really isn’t much to ask,
Not like Cain had done to brother.
Take nothing that may not be yours,
And please do tell no lies,
Do not request some other things,
Or you might hear anguished cries.
Then God implored to Moses,
Those words do show my plan,
And how I may be recognised,
By my creation known as man.
They may just have been two tablets,
Made of common stone,
But live by the words scribed on them,
And you’ll never be alone.

Exodus
Chapter 20
Verses 3 ~ 5 ; 7 ~ 8 ; 12 ~ 17
3 : Thou shalt not have strange gods before me.
4 : Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth.
5 : Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.
7 : Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that shall take the name of the Lord his God in vain.
8 : Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath day.
12 : Honour thy father and thy mother, that thou mayest be long lived upon the land which the Lord thy God will give thee.
13 : Thou shalt not kill.
14 : Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 : Thou shalt not steal.
16 : Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 : Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house: neither shalt thou desire his wife, nor his servant, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his.
