We don’t need another hero
Out there for all to see
But all that don a uniform
Are heroes just to me
For it’s by their very actions
That I am left so free



There have been so many heroes
In all the years gone past
As I read the names upon that wall
And hold my breath aghast
But I know that all those listed
Were not the first or last



Times have changed and freedom’s sought
In a different kind of way
Than those who trudged the muddied fields
In years of yesterday
And now it is on deserts’ sands
They stand in tyrants’ way



We don’t need another hero
Nor another name upon that wall
But the longer they are fighting
The more we know will fall
But we praise them all so highly
Those that answer freedoms’ call



We don’t need a lot of heroes
We do want them home again
Not trudging on those foreign shores
Where they leave their bloodied stains
So let’s all pray together now
For the day when peace does reign



But until that day befalls us
When all freedoms are released
We’ll see those heroes marching
Their strength does never cease
But sadly so many heroes
Give lives in name of peace
